2022/23 Pre-Season

Well here we are. Once again full of fear and optimism like we’re heading out on a first date. You get a new “first date” at least once a year if you follow a sports team or club and trust me, that’s the least they can do for you. What with all the bs we endure…apologies. Optimism and hope and Brasilians and the process.

28 days until the EPL season.
55 days until the transfer window closes.
135 days until the 22nd World Cup.

Per the usual, our off season has been full of drama, rumors, and silly punditry.

Barçelona and Chelsea have most likely scuppered our Raphina signing.

GABRIEL JESUS is our new #9 though!

Man Pew have most likely stolen defender Lisandro Martinez out from under our noses. They’re somewhere in the ballpark of a £50-60,000,000 bid though? No thanks.

Youri Tielemans may be coming in.

Apparently we’ve logged a £50,000,000 bid for the Spanish-born/Serbian international attacking midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic. He is creative, 2-footed and 6’3″ with an exquisite touch and the occasional rocket blast for goals outside of the box. He is amazing and I don’t even want to get my hopes up. That is what, as they say, kills you.

All of that is more interesting than a preseason friendly against a second tier German side though right? You’d think for sure, but you’d be wrong!

We looked limp and leggy in the first half and carried a 2-0 deficit into the dressing room at halftime. To be honest we looked like the team that tried to play against Spurs at the end of last season, which is pathetic and embarassing. Smith Rowe did have a nice shot on goal from a curler on the left but for the most part we were just blah or meh, take your pick.

But then our 55 million dollar striker subbed on at the half, scored 2 goals and was responsible for another 2, all in the span of about 15 minutes.

It’s only a preseason friendly but man he looks good.
